“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and the mystery of the world we live in.”

~Rachel Carson, “A Sense of Wonder”

In Susan Brown’s Third Grade classroom, it is not uncommon for teacher and student to be side by side, learning together.  True to her quote, Susan enjoys being an adult who can share the wonder, joy, excitement and mystery of the world with her students.

Raised in Kansas City, Susan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a second Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, both from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.  A twenty plus year veteran of teaching, Susan originally became a teacher because she loves being around kids, who make her smile and keep her young.

Outside of school, Susan can be found hanging out with her husband, daughter, son and son-in-law plus the furry family members, including Levi and the grand-puppies Sadie and Crosby.  A fan of home town sports, Susan can be found cheering on Sporting KC and the Jayhawks!  Susan enjoys a wide range of music, especially jazz, Celtic, blue grass and classical.  She enjoys spending time planning, designing, and gardening on her Weston farm as well as going to concerts, galleries, markets and restaurants in and around the Plaza.

“I enjoy teaching at Oakhill because Oakhill is such a kind and caring environment!”
