Inspiring a Love of Learning

Serving ages 18-months - five years old

At Oakhill Day School, students thrive while exploring math, science, social studies, and communication arts from a young age. Daily circle time, Physical Education, Innovation Lab, Spanish, and Music further enrich their learning experience and foster social-emotional growth.

Oakhill's Early Childhood students are well-prepared for the future through our balanced and supportive early education, setting them up for lifelong success.

Our Programs

The Oakhill Day School Early Childhood Division is comprised of four distinct programs:

Pretoddler (18 months - 2 years)

Oakhill Day School's Pretoddler Program offers a nurturing environment where our youngest students experience their first taste of independence, learning, and growth.

With dedicated teachers and engaging activities, your child will thrive and develop essential early skills in a supportive setting.

Class size for Pretoddler is 6 students: 1 teacher.

Toddler (2 years - 3 years)

Oakhill Day School's Toddler Program offers a nurturing environment where children develop social-emotional skills and build on their learning through engaging classroom transitions.

With dedicated teachers and enriching activities, your child will thrive and grow in a supportive setting.

Class size for Toddler is 8 students: 1 teacher.

Preschool (3 years - 4 years)

At Oakhill Day School's Preschool Program, our teachers build strong, personalized relationships with each student, allowing them to tailor learning experiences to the child's readiness and interests.

By fostering these connections, our educators help children develop essential pre-reading skills and explore more advanced math concepts, ensuring a supportive and enriching environment for growth.

Class size for Preschool is 9 students: 1 teacher.

Prekindergarten (4 years - 5 years)

At Oakhill Day School's Prekindergarten Program, our teachers build strong, personalized relationships with each student, preparing them in both social-emotional skills and academics to provide a strong foundation for kindergarten.

By further developing pre-reading skills and exploring advanced math concepts, our educators ensure students are ready for the years to come in Lower School, within a supportive and enriching environment.

Class size for Prekindergarten is 9 students: 1 teacher.

There is something special about being a child's first school experience. There is so much learning that happens at that age, from speech development to potty training, we get to help those students grow into lifelong learners.

Early Childhood in Action!

Two preschool students cheering for themselves after finishing an activity

This week in Preschool, we explored traditional tales to help build literacy, moral reasoning, and ignite imagination. We started with The Little Red Hen Makes Pizza, encouraging participation and teamwork. Children enjoyed making their own pizza and shared ideas on helping at home and school, emphasizing kindness. In Little Red Riding Hood, they imagined packing a basket for Grandma, teaching empathy. We discussed safety by not talking to strangers. In Gingerbread Girl, they created gingerbread figures and learned safety lessons. They also found 26 Hidden Gingerbread persons around the classroom, making learning engaging.

Pretoddler students and parents on their field trip

April 20th marked the day that the Pretoddler classroom took an adventure outdoors at Jowler Creek Winery! What a lovely sunny day to experience our science unit of trees, grass, and flowers!

Toddler students playing with water, scoops, and pales to retell the Jack-and-Jill nursery rhyme

Our toddlers had so much fun diving into classic nursery rhymes through hands-on play! Each story came to life in a meaningful (and messy!) way. Through play, our toddlers built language, coordination, and confidence, all while having so much fun with their friends! We loved watching their imaginations grow and are looking forward to more storytelling during our Traditional Tales theme!

Plants Are Growing And So Are We!

Plants are growing and so are we! In Mrs. Lafferty’s Pre-K class, we have been learning all about the life cycle of a plant, what plants need to survive, and the different parts of a plant. Over the next few weeks, we will continue observing our grass seeds, lima beans, and celery in food coloring.

Rain boots lined in the hallway

Even with the rainy weather, our little ones had a blast in PE! Mrs. Clark’s  class embraced the spring rains, putting on their boots and enjoying time splashing in puddles. It’s been a wonderful opportunity for students to explore and develop their sensory and motor skills—all while having lots of fun!
