National Higher Education Day
Oakhill is proud to support National Higher Education Day. National Higher Education Day is celebrated on June 6 and is meant to motivate and inspire students to pursue higher education to help increase the number of students who graduate with a degree.
Providing educational programming for early childhood through middle school age learners puts Oakhill in a unique position to provide its students with their education foundation. We set the building blocks for their learning to come and challenge our students by creating an environment of clear expectation while providing the support system to guide students through times of success and challenge. Oakhill aims to be an academic stress-free zone by emphasizing resilience in the classroom. We understand that not every student will achieve the same goals at the same time. As a community of educators, it is a top priority to ensure that each student has a genuine love for learning that they carry with them into their years of higher education.
One of the most rewarding feelings an educator can have is seeing a student go on to do amazing things out in the world during their adult lives. Oakhill students graduate the 8th grade with a diverse wealth of knowledge, interests, and goals for their future.
Oakhill alumni can be found all over the country. Colleges attended by our alumni include William Jewell, University of Missouri - Columbia, University of Missouri - Kansas City, The University of Kansas, University of Central Missouri, Northwest Missouri State, St.Louis University, Washington University, and Truman State University. Some students have even gone as far as Green River College in Washington State, The University of San Diego, Harvey Mudd College, The University of Michigan, Florida Gulf Coast University, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, and United States Military Academy at West Point.
These alumni are studying a wide range of majors, everything from history, political science, biochemistry, finance, marketing, theatre, business administration, nursing, psychology, sociology, physical therapy, and engineering. Our recent college graduates are pursuing careers in music licensing, medical research, film making, and entrepreneurship and can be found working for large companies like Cerner and the Federal Reserve Bank.
No matter what our students choose to do, we are proud of their hard work and dedication. Each day we celebrate everything that our students bring with them, outside of the academics. So today, we show our support of higher education for those students who we taught to read, write, and tie their shoes who are now on their way to conquering their freshman year of college. We show support for the shy students who gained the confidence at Oakhill to take center stage or the students who took a little extra time to catch up with their classmates academically but are now thriving in medical or engineering school alongside their peers. Oakhill celebrates Higher Education Day for the students that it teaches today, who have big ideas, big dreams, and accomplishments yet realized.
