MAS Mentor 2019-2020 Introduction
The Middle School is excited to announce the MAS Mentor team for the 2019-2020 school year, we are also pleased to state that we have grown a great deal and have a strong group of students available to tutor students with their Math and Spanish work. This year's team includes eighth graders Kaden Culbertson, Hannah Draut, Jonas Beckham, and Mary Kimmerle (2nd year); and seventh graders Drew Clawson, Alexa Doumit, Jaiden Phung, and Lucy Rule.
The MAS Mentor Program is a valuable resource for students who may need or want assistance with test preparation, homework, or projects in either Math or Spanish. Mentors provide "another voice" while offering solid direction or guidance (not answers), and valuable personal 'peer' experience when tackling homework, difficult topics, and even managing their time. The interaction also improves communication skills (socially and academically) and helps build confidence by providing mutual learning opportunities for everyone involved.
Assistance may be scheduled on a regular basis or 'as needed' depending on each student's needs. This program is open to any student in the South Building (4th - 8th) and parents (or students) may reach out to the respective teachers to arrange assistance.
Typically Sra. WalkerHolmes will work to find an available mentor and a convenient time for the first visit. Mentors document the time spent, the subject worked on, and the name/grade of the students they work. The information is used to monitor service hours and the overall success of the program.
MAS Mentors are available to assist students before or after school Monday thru Friday.
