In a Nutshell - Social Isolation?
In my 28 year career in education, I could not have imagined this scenario would ever play out...not the virus part, but the educational model that we are forced to adopt and embrace. I see it as a time to learn and grow...professionally and personally.
One editorial I read said "education will never be the same now that parents know they can teach their own children." Although I have no doubt the Oakhill parents are capable of teaching their children, I believe we will all miss the typical school model - the relationships, the community, the activities, and the feeling of the space! We all have a role to play.
I, for one, will be anxious to have all of the students and teachers back at one campus! I miss people! I miss interactions! I miss the hustle and bustle of the school day!
Although I am only a few days into "isolation", I hope I find some positive and "lifestyle changing" takeaways. I've started my own journal so that I can see myself change in attitude and develop new skills over time. Maybe we don't need so many activities. Maybe we will learn how to work smarter and not harder. Maybe we will reconnect with our family in a way that will bring future togetherness at breakfast and dinners. Maybe new and healthier habits will be formed through all of this!
Who knows? I can only imagine! But, I do know we will all be forever changed in some way by this time! I hope to be changed in a positive and meaningful way!
