Move Over Summer Reading... Makers Gotta Make!
Just as our libraries evolved from quiet reading spaces into bustling maker spaces this past school year, our summer reading program has evolved too. This summer we want you to keep reading, dreaming, creating, exploring and making. We've created a "Makers Gotta Make!" grid to help you plan your making.
We've separated the grid into 5 categories:
Make something cool to share with your family and friends!
Art is everywhere. Find it or create it!
Knowledge is power! Learn something new.
Explore the world around you!
Read whatever you want!
As you record your activities, you'll have the chance to earn some super fun prizes! The more making you do, the more chances you'll have to earn prizes. For every 5 boxes you mark off, you'll earn a raffle ticket. We'll be drawing from the raffle tickets for some super fun prizes!
What do I need to do?
Print out your Makers Gotta Make grid and start making! As you complete the maker activities listed (or your own activity), cross off the corresponding box. We'd love to see your photos as you make - post them and tag us on social media! @oakhillday #ODSLife
How will I "prove" what I've done?
We trust you and your parents! The only "proof" we need is the Makers Gotta Make Grid with your marked off box(es) and your parent's signature when we come back to school in the fall.
What about my reading log? Will I be recording what I read?
You will not be creating a book log for Oakhill but Mid-Continent library has an amazing summer reading program where you can create your book log and win prizes too. We encourage you to sign up for their program here: https://www.mymcpl.org/summer-library-program.
When do I start?
Today! No need to wait :).
Have a great summer!
