Introducing Maggie Chandler ...
We are excited to introduce to the Oakhill community our new School Wellness Counselor, Maggie Chandler! This new position is one that teachers and administrators are excited to have as we all navigate uncharted territories.
We have had a relationship with Maggie over the past few years. Maggie has served as the Youth Suicide Prevention Specialist at Tri-County Mental Health and they happen to office on the third floor of our South Building. Maggie has been a trusted resource and friend that has provided parents, faculty, and students with valuable training and resources. Her calm, easy-going personality makes her very approachable and her knowledge makes her invaluable.
Maggie grew up in Southern California and completed her degree in Montana. Upon graduation, she worked as a medical scribe, a public health intern, and a global health advocacy intern. She moved to KC in 2018 and worked briefly as a shelter advocate prior to joining Tri-County Mental Health.
Maggie will use a wraparound approach to develop a dynamic counseling program focused on educating Oakhill students, teachers, and parents on mental wellness. Although her main office will be in the South Building, Maggie will serve both campuses and all Oakhill students. Having collaborated with Oakhill in the past, Maggie say she "loves the inviting environment and the efforts made in prioritizing students' overall wellbeing." She is passionate about mental wellness and building resilience within our youth. Her work at Tri-County has allowed her to make strong connections in the Northland that she will be able to utilize in her new role.
On a personal level, Maggie comes from a very large and very close family with over 20 cousins. She has been with her high school sweetheart since the age of 16 who she married in July 2019. She's a dog person, with two named Maisie and Blue and she absolutely adores them both! And last, but definitely not least, she and her husband Brandon are expecting their first baby GIRL in November!
Maggie will be joining us in August and we can't wait for you to meet her!
