Basketball - 2nd Grade (Boys)
The Oakhill Day School second grade basketball program participates in the Pius League, at St. Pius X High School. The school is located about five miles down the road from Oakhill. This is not a coed league, teams will be split up into boys and girls teams for games. Games are typically on Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons. Practices will begin late November, with games beginning early January. Teams will play approximately 6 - 7 games throughout the season. At the conclusion of the regular season, teams will participate in the Pius League single-elimination postseason tournament.
The second grade Pius basketball league is an instructional based league; the most important thing is that each child grows and develops an understanding of the game, along with developing and improving their basic fundamental skills of the sport. Throughout the regular season score is not kept, they begin keeping score when the league tournament games begin.
A emphasis at practices is placed on dribbling (ball handling skills - left/rt. handed), practices will also focus on passing, learning to play defense in the correct manner, and shooting. Building upon the skills each athlete possesses, and helping them grow and improve their game are a key component of the program.
We hope to see you on the hardwood this winter!
