Bruja is Back!

Puppets used in spanish

Pablo the lion puppet has lots of friends who come to visit our Spanish classroom, and one of the all-time favorites is Bruja (the witch)!  The kids get so excited to see her and many even remember her name from one year to the next!

Puppets are used in Spanish class from Early Childhood all the way through 1st grade. This is a way for the children to feel less anxious about trying out the language, all while having fun. When there is a special visitor like Bruja, it allows the students to understand that Hola (hello) is a greeting and not a name. You can’t imagine how many of your young kiddos have called me Hola! By practicing greetings with different characters, this allows them to better understand how it works.

Of course, Bruja brings a fun Halloween song with her, which we use to learn some basic words in Spanish like calabaza (pumpkin) and bruja (witch). We count the calabazas and color a picture of the cinco calabazas to take home. It has the number words in Spanish on it, so that we can practice those if that sounds fun.

Ask your child if they saw bruja today, I bet their face lights up with a huge smile!
