Carray String Quartet Performs LIVE at Oakhill

The Carray String Quartet, led by Monty Carter, performed at Oakhill! Captivating students with classical pieces and a few familiar tunes like Viva la Vida! by Coldplay. Students experienced the energy of a live performance, and saw how the instruments interact, and even joined in by snapping along to the beat throughout the show!

During the performance, students learned more about the individual string instruments used in the quartet and how each has their own range of sound and role. Students were encouraged to pick up on the back and forth dialogue created within the various pieces and listen for which instruments carried the melody. This performance also helped students see a real life example of how an ensemble of musicians works together through visual cues to maintain a consistent tempo, align dynamics, and musical balance.

Oakhill students were taken on a journey of Baroque style music through the works of Mozart, Scarlatti, Bach, and Telemann. The students were also treated to an original piece written by Mr. Carter where they were encouraged to snap along to the beat.
