Congratulations! National Spanish Challenge & Exam Participants

Oakhill Day School is proud to celebrate a record-breaking year in Spanish language learning, marked by outstanding student achievement in both the 2025 National Spanish Challenge and the National Spanish Exam.

In the National Spanish Challenge, 36 Oakhill students participated across three divisions—an all-time high for the school. From a newly enrolled 3rd grader to seasoned 8th grade students, Panthers of all experience levels stepped up to the challenge, embodying the curiosity, resilience, and commitment that define Oakhill’s approach to learning. The Challenge is a national assessment that recognizes achievement in Spanish language learning, awarding students based on individual scores and percentile rankings.

This year, 29 students earned Excellent or Outstanding designations—a testament to their dedication and the strength of Oakhill’s Spanish program.

Adding to this success, 35 seventh and eighth graders participated in the National Spanish Exam, a rigorous, standardized online assessment designed for students in grades 6–12. Sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), the exam evaluates vocabulary, grammar, reading, and listening comprehension—serving as a strong foundation for future AP exams and the National Seal of Biliteracy.

While many of our students were first-time test takers—some having studied Spanish for less than a full academic year—they rose to the occasion, with their scores ranging from the 4th to the 96th percentile.

We are thrilled to share that four students received national recognition for their performance:

Honorable Mention (50th percentile or higher):
• Luke Rule – 57th percentile
• Keaton Lovitt – 61st percentile

Plata / Silver Medal:
• Brooklyn Kumar – 86th percentile

Oro / Gold Medal:
• Lucia Peterson – 96th percentile

These high-achieving students are now eligible for a variety of prestigious AATSP scholarships, including the Global Citizenship Award, Junior Travel Abroad programs, and the Senior Scholarship.

At Oakhill, we are incredibly proud of every student who took part in these challenges. Their courage to compete, enthusiasm for learning, and determination to do their best truly reflect the spirit of our school.

¡Felicidades, Panthers! You continue to inspire us with your academic excellence and global mindset.
