Hispanic Heritage Month in Art

Hispanic Heritage Month in Art

The second grade students celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th-October 15th by painting Mexican sombreros and ponchos. The sombrero is originally believed to be used to shade workers from the sun. The sombrero is part of the traditional Mexican Hat Dance where a young man gives up his most valuable possession to win the affection of the woman he loves. The poncho is a traditional clothing piece worn for protection from the weather while providing movement. It is also popular for fashion.

Art Paintings

The students practiced drawing and coloring different designs before painting their final copy of the sombrero and poncho. Be sure to look for their artwork on display during Global Celebration on November 6th!
