I'm One Word Project

Strong

As we head back to school this year, I thought it was the perfect time for my 4th and 5th graders to set some new goals and to choose their focus word for the year.  We started this project by reading One Word for Kids by Jimmy Page.  In this book, Mr. Page tells us to Look In: Prepare Your Heart, to Look Up: Discover Your Word and to Look Out: Live Your Word.

After brainstorming lists of words, we narrowed down our choices to just one word and then wrote our own definition of the word, and how we would live out our word at home and school. I shared with them that my one word for the year is Ripple because everything I do and say (good or bad) has a ripple effect on those around me (good or bad).

Once we’d done our brainstorming and writing, we designed and created posters in Canva representing our one word.  We uploaded these posters along with why we chose our word to a community Padlet.  We talked about how sharing our word with others will help keep us accountable and will help us remain focused on our goals throughout the year.  Their Canva posters will be printed and posted in South Building Commons.

I was so impressed with the time they took brainstorming their lists of words and the thought they put into how they would live out their words at home and school.  Actually I wasn’t just impressed with them I was BLOWN AWAY and I think you will be too!
