Student reading a book titled "Pete the Cat"

Dear Oakhill families,

Summer is most certainly here! I don't know about you, but I can almost smell that glorious chlorine-tinged with sunscreen smell, as fresh herbs in the garden call my name. I'm ready to be swept away by the magic that only summer can bring. There's nothing like late night smores and catching lightning bugs. However, this summer, “Anticipation,” might as well be my middle name. For those of you that I haven't had the pleasure of meeting (yet,) my name is Stephanie Youngblood and I simply CANNOT wait to be your K-8th grade Librarian for the 2026-2027 school year!

I truly believe that books bring opportunities. Opportunity to explore far away worlds, opportunity to connect with all kinds of people and an opportunity to have life long joy right at your fingertips.

So, to kick things off and get into our reading groove early, I'd love to share my excitement and anticipation with you! Since reading is the gift that keeps on giving, I thought I'd follow suit!

This summer, every student will have up to 10 opportunities to pick a children's book to read to their class, a bookmark AND earn a sonic drink EVERY SINGLE PANTHER PARTY! You heard that right - For making the choice to read this summer, you can get rewarded all year.

Who can participate?

  • Any student from pretoddler to 8th grade

How do I enter?

  • Fill out the entry form attached and turn it in at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year

How will I know if I win?

  • We will have a drawing during every Panther Party

What kind of books do I need to read?

  • Any book that you want! Just read, read, read!

It is a true gift to walk hand-in-hand with your student on their literary journey. This summer, I hope you take the opportunity to lean into reading wherever your adventures take you. I can’t wait to hear about all that you discover, but in the meantime, please share pictures of your summer reading fun in our Google Drive. Check it out from time to time because you might just see an unbeleafable book that you’ll be bound to check out.
