Pre-toddler Field Trip

Pre-toddler Field Trip

The Pretoddlers spent Monday, April 28th, at Jowler Creek Winery to engage in a real-life experience with nature. For the past two weeks, we have been studying trees, leaves, grass, and flowers. What better way to help us understand those science terms than to see them up close.

We began our adventure with a trail ride through the grape vines. We saw the tiny leaves beginning to bud on the vines. We noticed that they were GREEN! BUT along the way we encountered sheep! The three residential sheep were not as happy to see us as we were to see them. Even though they did not come and take the food from our little hands, we did hear them talk to us and enjoyed watching them run and run and run. After we left the sheep area, we stopped by the chicken coop. We were so excited to climb off the wagon and feed the chickens. They were glad to see us too! We fed them mealworms! We also looked inside the coop to see all the eggs laid by the chickens that morning. We helped collect the eggs too!. We found our seat back on the wagon and enjoyed the rest of the ride through the vineyard.

After a little refreshment, we continued our venture with planting sunflowers by putting soil into a cup, adding three flower seeds, watering our seeds, and placing our label in our cup. Mrs. C is taking them back to school for us to take care of for the next two weeks. We are so excited to see the sprouts break through the soil.

Next, we went looking for trees!  We used paper and crayons to make tree rubbings. Walking through the woods in search of different tree barks was exciting!

Lastly, we enjoyed kicking a soccer ball through the grass. It was a windy day, so we did not have to kick the ball too hard to see it roll fast across the grass.
