Oakhill Upper School Update

Oakhill Upper School Update

We’ve been hard at work getting the 2024-25 school year off to a great start! At the same time, know that we continue to work behind the scenes to move forward with an Upper School. When we have six families ready to commit we will be ready to relaunch the program.

Some highlights and areas in which we’ve been working on include:

  • Curriculum - The Oakhill Upper School curriculum reflects the same quality you are used to at Oakhill. Credits earned as a middle school student will transfer to our Upper School program (Spanish I, Geometry, Algebra II).

  • Space - Because we own the entire South Campus Building, we have room to expand. The next expansion may include contiguous space from our second floor doorway with utilization of the entire campus.

  • Teachers - Several of our Oakhill teachers have taught high school in the past and they are ready to teach when we have students ready to learn! They value their students … know their learning styles, gifts, and needs. Our teachers care about every student's success.

  • Learning Environment - You know who we are, our values, our expectations, and our school culture/climate. Although the climate will reflect the privileges that come with maturity, it will be familiar and comfortable.

  • Support - The same levels of support you have become accustomed to will follow you to Upper School - the Health and Wellness Director, the healthy breakfast and lunch, our Wellness Counselor, our Learning Support Team, and the same disciplinary and behavioral expectations and natural consequences.

  • Experiential Learning - We built the Upper School with this unique opportunity at its core - a time to explore passions, shadow, intern and connect with families, Oakhill friends and the Kansas City community. Our goal is to prepare students for the next phase in their lives.

  • Athletics and Clubs - There are many clubs and organizations to be a part of: yearbook, broadcasting, e-sports, sound/photography, National Honor Society, and volunteerism opportunities. You can participate/compete in golf, swimming, diving, tennis, cross country, and track and field. With numbers, we will be able to compete in volleyball and basketball, as well. As we wait for numbers to grow, we can create opportunities for competition and fun.
