Oakhill Choirs Perform at Elks Lodge Luncheon

Starting Thanksgiving Off Right

The Gladstone Area Chamber of Commerce gathered for its annual Thanksgiving luncheon this past week, a beloved local tradition sponsored by Oakhill Day School. The event highlighted the enduring partnership between the business community and the educational institution, a relationship that has spanned nearly two decades of the luncheon’s history.

In addition to our choir performances, our student speakers got the opportunity to provide testimonials about their time at Oakhill with the local community. Will E., an 8th grader who returned to Oakhill in middle school after attending elementary school elsewhere, spoke on the impact of the school's culture. "Oakhill staff and supporters have been some of the greatest individuals I have ever met," Will said. He explained his decision to return, noting, "I realized I needed to come back for a more challenging and individualized educational experience."

Harrison W., a 7th grader, focused on the leadership opportunities provided by the school, such as Student Council and the National Junior Honor Society. "Oakhill helps shape the future generation to be the best we can," Harrison said. "Oakhill has given me many opportunities, like to practice my presentation skills and meet so many new people."

Finally, 6th grader Ellis J. shared excitement regarding the school’s adventurous approach to learning, specifically recounting a recent class trip to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch in Arkansas. "I feel very lucky that Oakhill provides once-in-a-lifetime experiences for me and my friends to learn more and challenge ourselves more than we could have ever imagined," Ellis said. She vividly described the class activities, adding, "Zip lining at 60 miles per hour was not only the highlight of my trip, but something me and my friends can look back on for the rest of our lives."

We are so proud of these three students for being able to present themselves and Oakhill in such a good light in front of so many member of the Gladstone community!
