Oakhill Students Honor Veterans and Share Kindness Across Campus

Honoring Service and Spreading Kindness at Oakhill

At Oakhill Day School, community is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it is connecting students across grade levels or sharing the stories of families within our own community, we strive to ensure that every individual feels known, valued, and supported. One of the best examples of this shared spirit is our monthly Panther Parties. These schoolwide assemblies bring together students, teachers, and staff to celebrate achievements, recognize special occasions, and highlight the values that make Oakhill such a strong community.

This month’s Panther Party was dedicated to honoring Veterans within our Oakhill family. In the weeks leading up to the event, students across all divisions engaged in meaningful projects that helped them understand the sacrifices made by those who serve in the military. Our 4th and 5th graders had a special opportunity to hear from Dr. Martin Clemis, a U.S. Army Command and General Staff College professor, who shared his insight on the history of service in the United States and what life after service looks like for Veterans and was able to answer questions from our students.

During the Panther Party, we were proud to honor twelve Veterans connected to the Oakhill community. Students presented handmade thank-you cards and recognized each Veteran individually for their service and dedication. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of gratitude and respect for those who protect and serve our country. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the men and women of our Oakhill family who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces. Your courage and commitment inspire us all.

In addition to celebrating Veterans Day, Oakhill students also participated in activities centered around World Kindness Day. Through our Buddy Families program—cross-divisional groups that connect students from Pretoddler through 8th grade—students met to discuss the importance of kindness, empathy, and community. Together, they worked on collaborative projects that will be displayed throughout the school, showcasing how even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.

Both the Panther Party and Buddy Family activities highlighted the lifeskill of kindness and reminded us of the strength found in unity, gratitude, and compassion. At Oakhill, these moments not only build connections among students but also nurture the values that make our school community truly special.
