For the first Homeroom teambuilding activity of the year, Mr. Clevenger, Mr. Fernandez, and Mrs. Sarver set up a Cardboard Regatta. Each Homeroom (two 6th, two 7th, and two 8th) had to create a boat out of cardboard and any "creative materials."
Ms. Jackson's homeroom used red plastic cups, plastic wrap, and styrofoam packing in addition to cardboard!
Students were challenged to make their boat: a certain size; creatively built and decorated; able to hold the most weight.
Mrs. Bertoldie's Homeroom used many craft supplies to create a dragon boat!
The Homeroom teachers mostly stayed out of the picture. The students were in charge of boat design, engineering, and creation!
Brydan and Elijah work together to make Mr. Cole's Homeroom boat the best!
Wyatt and Clark used duct tape to waterproof Mr. Kleyh's Homeroom boat.
The six boats were named: Kleyhland Gaming Corner (Mr. Kleyh's Homeroom); The Panther Pearl (Ms. Robinson's Homeroom); The Oakhill Waves (Mr. Cole's Homeroom); The Skibbidi Scallywags (Mr. Dickey's Homeroom); The Shipwreckers (Mrs. Bertoldie's Homeroom); and The Oakhill Wayves (Ms. Jackson's Homeroom).
Alex, Logan, and Brody assembled Ms. Robinson's Homeroom boat!
Once the boats were ready, the entire Middle School visited the pool at the Gladstone Community Center (thanks, GCC!). The boats were tested: will they float?? Will they hold weight??
