Fun is Only a Fraction of What Happens in Math

To some, mathematics is just the science of numbers and their operations, but the students in Mr. Kleyh’s classes know that math involves collaboration, communication, practice, and persistence. Mr. Kleyh recently introduced the concept of multiplying and dividing rational expressions (polynomials in fraction form) to his eighth grade class, but instead of feeling overwhelmed with the new concept, the students embraced the learning opportunity with curiosity and conversation.

When you visit Mr. Kleyh’s math classes, you will notice that his approach to teaching mathematics is more than note-taking and examples; it begins with a safe, comfortable environment that invites students to discuss, investigate, and apply their mathematical schema to deepen their understanding of a more difficult math concept.
