Economic Field Trip Supplies Learning and Demands Fun

Did you grow up in the Kansas City area? Did you take a field trip to Exchange City as a fifth grader? Exchange City is not in business anymore, but the School of Economics is a local business that provides students a fun, hands-on field trip opportunity full of finance fun while gaining an economic experience and education. After the preparation, interviews, and planning, students were ready to get to work to apply the mission of the School of Economics: to help students understand and apply basic marketplace concepts and skills and expose them to business related careers by having jobs and managing their earned money.

The mayor of the town, Daphne Lovitt, kicked things off with her welcoming speech, and the Bank and Accounting firms were filled with workers to start going over bank loans and cashing in paychecks.

The warehouses were busy with students picking up their supplies for food and crafts their shops needed, and soon the "town" was buzzing.  At the end of the day students found out if they were able to pay off their original loans, and possibly earned a profit. They discussed the impact of supply and demand on price drive, and how to best use their resources. It was a successful day for all!  Way to go, Panthers! Check out more photos here!
