Fabulous Fifth Graders-- Fact Fluency Games

Math Games-Fact Fluency 2

We are excited to share that our 5th graders have been working on building fact fluency in math playing games!

WHAT???  - yes, you heard it right- games!

Based on the book, Math Fact Fluency, written by Jennifer Bay-Williams and Gina Kling, students are building their basic facts knowledge with a variety of games targeted to help them progress through the three phases of fluency. Students begin math class with a spiral review each day, and these games have become a fast favorite. The strategies are research-based, providing practice with all four basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

The best part about it- they are FUN! All of these games are easy-to- make, and easy-to-use for students. They provide engaging math practice that also works to take the "fear" out of finding the facts fast and without error. I would have to say a favorite we are using right now is "1st to 20". Check out some of our pictures and if you're interested- ask a 5th grader to teach you!
