Rockin' Reports

Fifth grade has been working hard and rockin’ it in the process! Between our informational reports and our movie poster book reports, we have been busy inside and outside of the classroom! I already know you are asking yourself, “What? Movie posters? For a book report? No way!” Seriously, they were our first quarter book reports and they turned out amazing!

Each quarter, fifth grade is expected to do a book report that is project based. The first one was a movie poster. The students were expected to make it visually appealing, just as any movie poster is. In addition, they needed to add their own flair by adding a cast of their choice, whether that be famous people, family members, or friends. They needed to write a summary of the “movie”, but not give too much away. They wanted to entice their audience! Last but not least, the students needed to become movie critics and create reviews. These were made up in part, but also based on their thoughts and critiques of the book. Let’s just say, fifth grade has a pretty cool looking hallway, so come by and check them out!

Fifth Grade Reports

In writing, we finished and presented our informational pieces. We learned so many topics ranging from Ancient Egypt to the history of chocolate chip cookies. Fifth graders worked hard to learn how to create headings that match their body paragraphs, used transitions, and wrote an introduction and conclusion. Along with researching, the students learned how to cite their sources. This was their first time doing this and it was definitely a harder concept. We had lessons and discussions over differences over article titles and website titles, how to punctuate the work cited, and how Google is a platform that takes you to all of your information. In the end, fifth grade knocked it out of the park! Check out some pictures of a couple of the movie posters and the informational reports!
