Missouri's Creepiest Residents

Missouri's Creepiest Residents

On Tuesday, April 1, the first graders took a field trip with Mrs. Thompson to Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area. They enjoyed learning about many creepy crawly animals and insects through the program Missouri’s Creepiest Residents. In this program they learned how Missouri is home to many amazing animals, including some that may be considered "creepy."

At the center, students participated in a game show style program which helped them discover how animal adaptations help the creepy crawlies survive, grow and meet their needs. Students also participated in a guessing game in order to connect which creature belonged to which habitat. This was a big hit!

Some extra special encounters with Missouri’s “creepy” residents came next. Students had the opportunity to see a live snake and tarantula, as well as hold a snake skin and see a real bat skeleton. Talk about creepy fun!

To end the adventure, first graders went on a nature hike and learned about the trees and animals that live in Missouri’s woodland habitats. What better way to end the day than outside. What native Missouri residents will you find on your next nature adventure?
