Hooping Our Way into Spring

Hooping Our Way into Spring

Our intermediate students have been shooting/hooping their way into spring with a wide variety of basketball shooting, dribbling, and passing games! With many of our students involved in basketball at Oakhill this winter, our basketball unit gave students a chance to get in a little bit of extra practice throughout the week. It was awesome to see how much progress the students made throughout the unit—everyone had a blast while improving their shooting, dribbling, and passing skills. Throughout the unit, students were involved in a wide variety of basketball activities. A few examples of the games we played were Sorry Basketball, Basketball Bowling, Around the World, Make-it-Take-it, and Basketball “15”.

One of our class favorites was “SORRY BASKETBALL”. This game is a play on the actual board game “SORRY”. In this game students had various spots they could shoot a basket from on the court. Some shots were worth 1 point, with others being worth 2, 3, and 4 points. In this game students were split up into 6 - 8 teams at the goals around the gym. Students would dribble up to a dot they wanted to shoot from and take a shot. If they made the shot, they went to our “SORRY BOARD” (the Sorry board was created with 25 hula hoops that they moved their game piece through) and moved their game piece the number of spaces that their shot was worth. If they made a two point shot they got to move their teams “SORRY” piece two hula hoop spaces forward. The goal of the game was to work on and improve our shooting and dribbling skills; while trying to be the first team to reach the end of the “SORRY BOARD”. The students had a lot of fun with this while improving their skills!

After a fun and energetic basketball unit, we’re moving into our badminton and pickleball units next. Be sure to check out our PE SeeSaw page for some fun and exciting videos from our basketball unit games/activities!
