Celebrating Diwali and Embracing Culture in the Oakhill Community

Celebrating Diwali

We had a special visit from Neena Patel, mom to our very own Krish and Arjun, who joined us to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights! Neena shared a beautifully illustrated book about Diwali, helping our students learn more about this important cultural celebration. The students were thrilled to listen as she described the significance of the holiday, which celebrates the triumph of light over darkness—a reminder of hope, joy, and togetherness.

To make the experience even more memorable, Neena brought along a fun craft for the students in kindergarten and second grade to try and shared delicious Indian treats that everyone enjoyed. The vibrant colors, flavors, and festive spirit truly brought Diwali to life for our students.

Her visit came at a perfect time, as just last night Oakhill hosted its annual Global Celebration. This event is a cherished tradition where we celebrate the rich diversity within our Oakhill community and honor the many cultures that make it so unique. The Global Ceremony is a time for students, families, and staff to come together in recognition and respect for the traditions, languages, and heritage that each person brings to Oakhill.

At Oakhill, we welcome and encourage parents to engage in the classroom, sharing their cultural experiences and traditions with our students. These connections are part of what makes the Oakhill community so special. When parents like Neena take the time to share their heritage, it enriches our students' learning and helps foster a deep appreciation for the diversity around them.

Enjoy a few snapshots of our Diwali celebration with Neena Patel—thank you for sharing such a beautiful tradition with us!
