Celebrating the Oakhill Spirit

Oakhill Day School Alumni

My son, Brady, and his girlfriend, Eliza, hosted a Friendsgiving this past weekend at their home in Dallas … turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, and a smorgasbord of sides. Brady is an incredible chef (he takes after his dad … I don’t really cook)! Being able to see him (from afar) bring his friends together for such a special event brought a huge smile to my face and filled me with great pride. He dots his i’s and crosses his t’s … always … in every facet of his life. I credit his confidence, vision, and time management skills directly to his Oakhill education … and his place in the Oakhill community. I am truly grateful for the “village” that helped shape him into who he is today.

I am proud that Brady is one of our alumni chairs for the Mighty Oak Fund! He doesn’t support Oakhill because I make him, but because he recognizes, acknowledges, and truly understands how much this community—this educational experience—meant to his success. I am grateful for his commitment to Oakhill, and he is excited about our current fundraising efforts (he is a banker, after all)!

I am also thankful for and appreciative of our current fundraising momentum. Giving seems to be a catalyst and precursor for continued generosity. As I mentioned in my last advancement letter, we are thrilled to have secured another $50,000 match from now through Giving Tuesday on December 3rd. Bob and Susan Selby (grandparents of Finley and Quinn Hessemyer) and Mark and Karen Mathes (grandparents of Evelyn, Alexander, and Henry) came together to make this matching opportunity possible.

As of today, after a successful October of giving, we have raised $187,446 toward our $350,000 goal. This total comes from 161 donors. Within our community, we have 258 families, plus grandparents, past parents, alumni, and Oakhill friends. A quick “napkin math” calculation shows that 162 current families giving $1,000 each would take us to the finish line … and that does not include additional gifts from grandparents, alumni, or past parents.

We recognize that $1,000 is a generous donation, and that was just a rough napkin calculation. I do hope you will consider making a stretch gift to help us reach our goal by December 31st. Whether it’s $100, $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500, or any amount that feels right, I ask you to think about what Oakhill means to you and your family. Your Mighty Oak Fund gift will help us achieve our goals, meet our budgetary needs, and allow Oakhill (the entire institution) to be its best self!

The Northland needs Oakhill to cultivate the future leaders and entrepreneurs of tomorrow!

We are appreciative of your support,
Suzanne
