We are excited to tell you all about Mrs. Craven's new role at Oakhill. Mrs. Craven is teaching 2nd grade this year. With her prior experience teaching 2nd grade, and her love for having her own classroom we are happy to have her back in her own classroom. Please continue reading to learn more about Mrs. Craven, and her new role.
What position did you hold prior to this current position?
This is my 4th year teaching 2nd Grade at Oakhill, but last year I enjoyed being a Kindergarten Teaching Assistant!
What made you interested in this new career opportunity?
I love 2nd Grade! The curriculum, field trips, and returning to teach with Mrs. Clevenger made it the perfect fit.
What do you hope to bring to this position and/or your students?
As an experienced 2nd grade teacher and previous Kindergarten Assistant - I hope I can bring excitement about our content, enthusiasm for teaching 2nd grade and knowledge of the background of these students.
What excites you about this new position?
I love meeting my new students! The opportunity to create a new classroom family and share my passion for knowledge and being a lifelong learner makes me excited for every new day.
What led you to education?
I have been a teacher in some capacity since I was a senior in high school. As the oldest in my family (siblings and cousins) I have always felt natural in a leadership/teacher role. I enjoy getting to know each and every one of my students and ensuring that they know how much I care about them. Helping them succeed both academically and socially is my joy!
What is your favorite memory of school from when you were a child?
My 3rd grade teacher - Mrs. Davis. I knew I wanted to be a teacher after being in her class. She had high expectations, endless grace and patience, her classroom was calm and nurturing and she made every day something to look forward to. She is an amazing person!
How did you get ready/prepare for your first day of school at Oakhill Day School?
I planned our activities for the first two days of school, spent many hours making sure my classroom was ready for my 12 new 2nd graders, picked out a fun outfit with earrings that matched and got to school early! :)
