Coding Brings the Grinch to Life!

Coding Brings the Grinch to Life!

In the Innovation Lab, creativity and technology are coming together as 7th-grade and half of 8th-grade students transition from 3D design in Tinkercad to 3D coding in CoSpaces. What began with manipulating simple shapes has evolved into immersive, coded environments where students bring their ideas to life through storytelling and design.

To kick off the new unit, students used storyboarding to plan out entire scenes, combining their creative writing skills with the technical challenge of coding in 3D. The result? Animated stories that showcase their hard work and imagination, including a special focus on a holiday favorite: the Grinch!

To celebrate their efforts, Kindergarten students were invited to tour the animated Grinch stories. The younger students were amazed by the creativity of their older peers, fully engaging with the digital worlds. True to Kindergarten form, they didn’t just observe—they shared ideas, asked questions, and even added their own flair to the storytelling, proving that innovation truly sparks collaboration across grade levels.

Meanwhile, other Innovation Lab students who weren’t working on Grinch animations took on a thrilling challenge of their own: designing and coding 3D theme parks. From roller coasters to food courts, entrances, and themed attractions, these virtual parks showcased impressive attention to detail, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Oakhill’s Innovation Lab continues to inspire students to dream, design, and code, equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in a creative, tech-driven world. We can’t wait to see what they’ll create next!
