Bright, Bold, and Joyful: Art AND Oakhill Students

Bright, Bold, and Joyful: Art AND Oakhill Students

Our 6th grade artists are  exploring the bright, bold, and joyful artwork of contemporary artist Romero Britto. Students learned about Britto’s philosophy of using art to spread happiness and positivity, as well as his signature use of vibrant colors, playful patterns, and expressive designs.

You might think of "philosophy" as being a Social Studies or Communication Arts topic, but the integrated nature of Oakhill academics means that students are challenged to think and to understand others' thinking in all classes! Art class is not an "extra" for middle school; it is an essential part of a well-rounded education.

Inspired by Britto’s artwork and message, our 6th graders are now creating their own Britto-inspired paintings. Ella, Raeglan, and Lucas show pride in their work in the attached photo! Students are experimenting with bold colors, patterns, and positive imagery to create artwork that reflects their own unique styles. At Oakhill, each student's uniqueness is known and valued, and projects like these help students see themselves as special and valuable!
