Clouds in a Jar!

Clouds in a Jar!

Do you know how a cloud forms? If you don't, go ask a 6th grader! They spent several days working through seven iterations of an experiment to help them learn how clouds form.

In this experiment, the students recreated the exact process by which a cloud forms, just inside a jar. With each iteration, though, the students adjusted one variable. This allowed them to identify the variables that are needed for cloud formation. When a necessary variable wasn't present, no cloud formed in the jar!

Students had to rely on knowledge they already had, plus observations, notes, and critical thinking. They loved this activity! Several of them described it as "really, really cool," and one student said she loved the "POOF" the cloud made when it escaped the jar.

So go find a 6th grader, bring them a jar, and see if they can tell you how to make a cloud!
