"Good manners and kindness are always in fashion."

Half of the sixth graders started the year in a new class, Living Skills. The first unit in Living Skills was Manners and Etiquette. After a few weeks of learning about and practicing traditional etiquette, respectful manners, and consideration for others, the students showed what they'd learned during a Manners Meal.

For the meal, students: set the table conventionally; sat and used utensils properly; conversed respectfully and appropriately; and cleaned up quickly and calmly. They ate food provided by parents: thank you, Mrs. Parretta, Mrs. Shekleton, Ms. Rudolph, Mrs. Baldwin, and Mrs. Meyring!

To make the Manners Meal even more special, several members of Oakhill's Leadership team joined the 6th graders in eating and conversing! The presence of Mrs. Beckham, Mrs. McCanles, Mrs. Newhouse, and Mrs. Sarver made the meal momentous and more fun! Thank you, Mrs. Beckham, Mrs. McCanles, Mrs. Newhouse, and Mrs. Sarver!

The adults were impressed by the manners and etiquette the students demonstrated. "Our conversation was great and the kids were engaged," said Mrs. Beckham. Mrs. McCanles added, "I was impressed by the dialogue at the table!" At the middle table, both Mrs. Sarver and Mrs. Newhouse noted "how the conversation flowed" and was "pleasant," as well as with "how polite they were." Great job, students!

The Manners Meal was a great (and delicious!) opportunity for these 6th graders to show The Oakhill Way!
