Mount Olympus Comes to Oakhill

Sixth grade Social Studies students have been learning about the ancient Greek gods and goddesses. As a class, the students are creating a mythological card game!

Each student self-selected 7 Ancient Greek gods and/or goddesses to create trading/game cards for--then once they combined their lists, they tallied who, and in some cases how many, of each god or goddess they had, and then began discussing possible gameplay. In some cases, they decided they might need "x" number of Zeus cards, and then volunteered/assigned one another to make more, or different cards in addition to their initial 7. They also added monster cards, magical object cards, punishment cards, etc. as they began to develop their potential rules.

At that point, they looked at the rules and game play loops of some other games'(Old Maid, War, Pokemon, etc.), and then met in small groups to brainstorm. Students have shown flexibility, diplomacy, and imagination while developing their still-changing systems, but they are really creating good logics for their choices! Some have even shown a flair for layout/design and a definite prowess with Canva.

Ultimately, each class has created a different game (individual play vs teams, 5 vs 7 cards dealt, various backstory and penalty maneuvers, etc.); the cards are near complete, and then...let the card games begin!
