Middle School Spanish Students Reimagined the KC Iron District

Model of Iron District taco stand with eating spaces.

Our Oakhill Middle School Spanish students took on a creative challenge by reimagining the Kansas City Iron District, designing their own restaurant concepts complete with Spanish language menus inspired by cultures across the Spanish speaking world. From thoughtful layouts to inclusive features, their ideas brought a fresh and delicious perspective to community gathering spaces. Their work shows how they are applying language skills in meaningful ways while thinking through how spaces can serve a community.

Meanwhile, our other Spanish classes went global, building detailed models of cities from Tokyo to Buenos Aires, Paris to Mexico City, and beyond. Our intermediate students even completed their own scavenger hunts, using real world landmarks to deepen their understanding of vocabulary and place.

We could not be more proud of how our students brought this project to life and the way they turned their learning into something tangible. What do you think, Iron District?
