“Swinging” Our Way Into Summer

“Swinging” Our Way Into Summer

Our middle school students have been “Swinging” their way into summer break with a wide variety of baseball/wiffle-ball activities and fun games! With spring flings in the gym, and with the weather warming up outside, it has been great to get outside and have some fun playing wiffle-ball! It has been great to watch each student improve their hitting, throwing and catching skills throughout the unit.

When we have not been playing wiffle-ball out on the North Field, we have been in the gym playing some other fun baseball skill based games. A couple games we have played are longball baseball and paddle ball baseball. The students have really enjoyed both of these games and had a lot of fun with them. In longball baseball there are only two bases (mats). Students are trying to hit a round bouncy ball and reach the base (mat) at the end of the gym before they get tagged out, or the defense gets the ball to our 1st base cone. If they reach the base safely, they then try to make it back to the home base safely to score a run for their team. This is a great game that incorporates a variety of skills; along with good communication and teamwork. The students have also had a lot of fun with our paddle ball baseball game. Paddle ball baseball is very similar to wiffle-ball, the only difference is the students hit the wiffle-ball with a pickleball paddle instead of a wiffle-ball bat!

We will spend the last couple weeks of the year in PE introducing some fun new Field Day games, along with giving students the opportunity to play some fun games from their favorite units of the year!! Thanks to all of our middle school students for a great year in PE!!
