Session 1: June 1 – June 26th

Concepts include:

Reading Comprehension

• Analyze and interpret literary and informational texts

• Identify themes, character development, and author’s point of view

• Evaluate tone, text structure, and literary techniques

• Compare texts across genres and analyze argument and claims

Writing Skills

• Plan, draft, revise, and edit multi-paragraph writing

• Focus on clarity, coherence, organization, and purpose

• Write across genres, including persuasive, expository, narrative, and analytical

• Use textual evidence to support claims and develop strong thesis statements

Research

• Conduct short research projects using reliable sources

• Evaluate and cite primary and secondary sources

• Synthesize information and present findings clearly and accurately

Language & Vocabulary

• Use context clues, Greek and Latin roots, and reference tools to determine word meanings

• Strengthen grammar, sentence structure, and conventions in writing

• Expand academic and domain-specific vocabulary

Critical Thinking

• Evaluate arguments and identify bias in texts

• Develop evidence-based opinions and respond to complex questions

• Think deeply and respond critically through both speaking and writing
