Informational Flags in Spanish!

How do you get 3rd graders excited about research? You let them choose a Spanish-speaking country to make a flag of! This was a two-part project:  the actual flags were made at home, using whatever materials and methods the students chose to work with. The research, to find 5 or more facts about the flag and the country it represents, was done in Spanish class.

The kids had so much fun with both parts! They quickly learned how to use specific keywords in their search for information, and were able to come up with fun and interesting facts all on their own. One student was even so passionate about the research aspect, she said, “Wow, this is fun!  I could do this all day!”

Their flags and facts were finished just in time to be put on display in the 3rd grade hallway for Global Celebration. They were also eager to look for their country’s flag in all of the other flags we had around the school. This helps them make ties with the real world, which is one of the main focuses of Spanish class.
