The Kalsu Society of Friends honors Oakhill alumni who make a gift to The Mighty Oak Fund. Inclusion in the society will renew each year a financial gift is made to the school.

Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)

• A DAF is a charitable giving account you establish at a sponsoring organization (like Fidelity Charitable or a community foundation).

• You make contributions, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants to charities over time.

• Key feature: Flexible—you decide when and how much to give to charities like Oakhill.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) and Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs)

• QCDs are direct transfers from an IRA to a qualified charity like Oakhill.

• Available to individuals aged 70½ or older.

• Can count toward your RMD (which you must begin taking at age 73).

• Key feature: Up to $100,000 per year can go tax-free directly from your IRA to charity.

Why Consider QCDs?

Seniors aged 70½ and older can use QCDs to donate directly from their traditional IRAs to eligible charities, with two main benefits:

• Standard Deduction Friendly: Seniors can still take advantage of the larger standard deduction.

• Taxable Income Reduction: The donated amount is excluded from taxable income, reducing overall tax burden.

QCDs allow donors to lower taxable income while supporting causes they care about—a highly tax-efficient way to give.

Getting Started with QCDs

• Eligibility: Must be at least 70½ years old.

• Donation Limits: Donate up to $100,000 of IRA funds per year.

• Charitable Criteria: Donations must go to 501(c)(3) organizations like Oakhill, via direct IRA transfer.

• Timing: Plan to start early in the year to ensure the donation counts toward your RMD.

• Tracking: Confirm that the charity receives your donation and request a tax acknowledgment letter for gifts of $250 or more.

• Tax Reporting: Keep accurate records and report QCDs on your tax return.
